How does the General Tour work? Where do we start?

This is a self-guided tour. You can start at any of the six main houses to get your stamp and your printed booklet with the map of sites. Once you have your stamp, you can view the sites in any order you wish. Many of the properties are close together and easily walkable if you are fully mobile, however, some distances will require a vehicle. There is plenty of parking in town and in the area but individual homes will have limited street parking so plan your route accordingly. Please see our parking suggestions. There is a link to download a pdf of the booklet with the map on the website, so you have a starting point.

What if I have limited mobility?

There are mobility drop-off spots at each house. At some homes, there could be limited mobility parking. Please walk up to the door and introduce yourself to the Captain of each house. The person with mobility issues and their helper will be allowed to go to the front of the line. The tour is of private residences. We have checked with the residences on this year’s tour and none of them are wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately, we are unable to make them wheelchair accessible for the limited purposes of this event. Walkers can be accommodated. We will have boot covers for people who have difficulty removing their shoes. Please ask the Captain or the volunteer at the door about the boot covers. Please email us at notl.hht@gmail.com for individualized instructions.

Can I buy tickets at the event? Tickets are available ONLINE ONLY and often sell out before the early bird cut-off date.

Is my General Tour ticket valid for both days? YES, you can use your General Day ticket for both days between 9:30 am and 4:30 pm. A Merry & Bright Christmas is a separate tour and only for the specific date and time on your ticket. There is an option to purchase both tours as a package.

Where do we go for A Merry & Bright Christmas evening tour at the McArthur Estate?

Please go directly to 210 John Street East at the time and date on your ticket, and park along John Street. Parking is free.

Can I get into General Tour houses at 4:30 pm?

The houses will close at 4:30 pm, so you are advised to be at your last house of the day at least an hour prior. Sometimes line-ups can be long, so it is better to get there early. You can use your day tour ticket on Friday and Saturday.

What's the refund policy?

Tickets will not be refunded. Your donation benefits local and international projects. View our Projects section on this website to see the organizations we support.

Are there line-ups?

We have significantly reduced the number of tickets sold since pre-COVID. There are sometimes line-ups at the homes that are closest to the town perimeters. Please allow 30 minutes at some of the houses. Changing the order of the homes from the listed order in the booklet can help. We are adding hourly line-up notifications via email to provide options for shorter line-ups.

Can I bring my pet?

Sorry but there are no pets allowed in any of the homes.

What shoes should I wear?

All houses have a 'shoes off' policy, so it is advisable to wear shoes that slip on and off easily. Also, you will be standing for long periods in winter weather, so something comfortable and warm is advised.

Can I take photos inside or outside the homes? Photography inside the homes is not allowed except for individuals who have received prior permission for marketing or news purposes. You may take photographs of the homes’ exteriors. We will be posting photos of the homes on our Facebook page following the event.

Are there lunch specials for Tour attendees?
Our partner wineries and St. Vincent De Paul Church are offering specially priced lunches for House Tour Guests. See our 'Wineries on Tour' page for details.
